Beyond the Features is Officially Here!

Updated: May 19

A stylised, darkened image of a book signing event viewed from behind the author. The bald man, wearing a vest and shirt, is signing a copy of Beyond the Features: A Strategic Guide to Legal Tech Selection by David Langdon. The open book in front of him shows the title “Introduction.” A neat stack of the same book is displayed to his right on the table, and several people stand in a queue holding their own copies. The BlindSpot Solutions eye logo is visible in the top right corner.

What is it about?

After almost 30 years in legal tech – implementing systems, sitting through demos, writing RFPs, rescuing failed projects, and selling complex legal tech solutions to law firms around the world (while occasionally wondering whether the software was designed by anyone who’d ever met a lawyer) – I’ve written the book I wish law firms had years ago.

Beyond the Features – A Strategic Guide to Legal Tech Selection isn’t about chasing the shiniest platform. It’s about choosing legal technology that actually works – for your people, your processes, and your clients. Whether you’re selecting your first practice management system or overhauling a mature tech stack, this book helps you move beyond surface-level comparisons and make clear, strategic, and confident decisions.

What is inside?

This is a book you can read cover to cover – if you feel so inclined – or dip in and out of, depending on where you are in the journey. Each chapter offers practical guidance, relevant quotes to spark reflection (some insightful, others a little unexpected), and relevant “💡Consider” prompts to spark deeper thinking and encourage meaningful conversations within your firm.

You’ll also find a full resources section at the back, packed with a downloadable checklist, budgeting tool, vendor scoring sheet, a full summary of every Consider prompt, a printable quote card set, and a glossary of key terms – so you can revisit the big questions and brush up on the lingo any time. And there’s a QR code near the back to give you easy access to all of the downloadable resources.
